Luke Patey

Senior Researcher, Danish Institute for International Studies

Luke Patey is a senior researcher at the Danish Institute for International Studies and Lead Senior Research Fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, University of Oxford.

Luke is author of How China Loses: The Pushback Against Chinese Global Ambitions (Oxford University Press USA, 2021) and The New Kings of Crude: China, India, and the Global Struggle for Oil in Sudan and South Sudan (Hurst, 2014). His writing has appeared in The New York Times, Financial Times, Foreign Policy, Foreign Affairs, The Guardian, and The Hindu.

Luke holds a BSc (Hons.) in commerce from Queen’s University (Kingston, Canada) and a MSc and PhD from the Copenhagen Business School. He has been a visiting scholar at the United Nations University (Tokyo), the Social Science Research Council (New York), Peking University (Beijing), and Centre d’études et de recherches internationals (Paris).
