Two alumni from the first International Trade Training for Journalists in Asia organized by the Hinrich Foundation and the National Press Foundation (NPF) were invited to share relevant trade issues to the journalists present.

BusinessWorld Mindanao Bureau Chief, Marifi S. Jara, shared an interesting economic perspective on Mindanao with a special focus on its agricultural trade potential. She also shared the support needed to advance trade output from the region.

Another NPF fellow and Rappler’s business reporter, Ralf Rivas, presented the geopolitics of economic relations between China and the Philippines related to trade. He also discussed the political implications, benefits and risks of growing Chinese Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) in the country.

Hinrich Foundation’s Research Fellow and trade expert, Stephen Olson, shared the current state of international trade – its challenges and opportunities. He delved into the complexities of overall global trade dynamics as it relates to the Philippines.

The workshop concluded with a dynamic roundtable discussion among the speakers and participants.
