Launch of the Sustainable Trade Index 2022

The Hinrich Foundation will launch the fourth iteration of its Sustainable Trade Index (STI) in November 2022. This year’s index, developed in partnership with IMD World Competitiveness Center, measures the readiness and capacity of 30 economies to participate in the international trading system. Geopolitical tensions and the global economic slowdown in the recent past have changed the way economies interact with each other. Pandemic-induced supply chain disruptions, tariff wars, and other interruptions to trade have made economies more inward-looking in their bid to be self-sufficient. The sustainability of trade must remain a fundamental objective of the international community to ensure long-term economic growth and value creation.
The Hinrich-IMD STI seeks to analyze the factors that affect the sustainability of trade in a rapidly shifting international order. The index measures the readiness and capacity of a country to participate in the international trading system in a manner that supports the long-term domestic and global goals of economic growth, social capital, and environmental protection.
