Research Fellow, RSIS, Nanyang Technological University

Dr. Zhang Hongzhou is a Research Fellow with the China Programme at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He received his Ph.D. in Public Policy from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore.

His main research interests include regional and global resources conflicts and governance, game theory, discourse analysis, and emerging technologies.

He is an author/editor of three books, including “Securing the ‘Rice Bowl’: China and Global Food Security” (Palgrave, 2018), “China and Transboundary Water Politics in Asia” (Routledge, 2017, with Dr. Li Mingjiang) and “China’s Global Quest for Resources: Energy, Food and Water” (Routledge, 2016, with Dr. Wu Fengshi). 

In addition, he has published in peer-reviewed journals, including the China Quarterly, Global Food Security, WIREs Water, Pacific Review, Marine Policy, Water International, Global Policy, Asia Policy, Contemporary Southeast Asia,  Globalizations, China Review, International Journal of Water Resources Development, the Copenhagen Journal of Asia Studies, Harvard Asia Quarterly, the ISPI Analysis and Southeast Asia Studies, Cambridge Journal of China Studies and others. 

He has also published Op-Ed articles in major newspapers and magazines in the Asia-Pacific, such as the National Interest, South China Morning Post, Interpreter, East Asia Forum, Straits Times, YaleGlobal Online, the Diplomat, ChinaDialogue, AsiaGlobal Online,  ThinkChina, Today, New Security Beat, Lianhe Zaobao, the Nation, the Jakarta Post, IPP Review, All China Review, Fair Observer and RSIS Commentary.
