Joint survey: Impact of US and Chinese tariffs on American companies in China

Published 13 September 2018 | 1 minute read

Amid escalating U.S.-China bilateral trade tensions, AmCham China and AmCham Shanghai conducted a joint survey of over 430 member companies to measure the impact of tariffs imposed by both the U.S. and Chinese governments.

The report found that $200 billion in tariffs will have strong negative impact on half of U.S. businesses in China. Close to two-thirds of respondents said that the tariffs are having a negative impact, with 63.6% reporting that the initial $50 billion of tariffs from the U.S. are affecting their business operations, while a similar number (62.5%) said the same about China’s $50 billion worth of tariffs.

AmCham Shanghai's mission is to enable the success of their members and strengthen US-China commercial ties through their role as a not-for-profit service provider of high quality business resources and support, policy advocacy and relationship-building opportunities.
