Scholar background
Based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Altafur is working as a Sub Editor-cum-Reporter (Sports) for the Daily Sun, a leading English newspaper in Bangladesh, since July 2017. In this role, he is in charge of writing and editing sports news, especially cricket and football events. Prior to joining the Daily Sun, he was a Staff Reporter at The Asian Age and an Editorial Assistant at Daffodil International University’s magazine Campus Life. Apart from a regular job, he is extensively involved in action research as a Research Associate for the last seven years.
He graduated from Daffodil International University (DIU) in Bangladesh with a Bachelor’s degree of Journalism & Mass Communication (JMC) and now is a President of the DIU JMC Alumni Association.
Personal statement
Aiming to become a global human being and expose to the dynamics of international journalism, I am excited to be a recipient of the prestigious Hinrich Foundation Global Trade Leaders Scholarship to pursue MA degree in International Journalism at the Hong Kong Baptist University. I believe this program will boost me to achieve my goals of becoming a better journalist.
This scholarship opportunity will help me to assemble a deeper understanding of global trade, leadership skills and strategy based on critical thinking ability with a cross-discipline point of view during my study, then I can facilitate sustainable global trade and development through combining journalism and technological advancement successfully that propel me to become a Global Trade Leader.
Apart from that, I am expecting to be a successful media and teaching professional after completing my post-graduate degree. I have plans to obtain a PhD degree to accomplish my goal. Then I would return to my beloved motherland and join as a faculty member so that I can sow fresh dreams in my students to learn the functions and applications of Global Journalism.
The scholarship programme is one of the esteemed awards in the field of media industry across the world and I am very thankful for receiving such a life-changing opportunity.
