Michael Unger

Michael L. Unger is an adjunct fellow with the William M. Scholl Chair in International Business at CSIS. From 1971 to 1996, Dr. Unger was an international economist at the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
Mr. Unger was USAID’s representative to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) and negotiated in the Uruguay Trade Round. He also served as chief economist in the USAID Bureau for Private Enterprise. Following this, he was an associate professor of management and international business at Loyola University Maryland, where he taught graduate courses in international business, trade, investment, finance, and the microeconomics of global competitiveness. Mr. Unger is a senior associate at Harvard Business School’s Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness. He received his BS at the Ohio State University, MA at Washington University, and PhD from the Penn State University. He is a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Program for Management Development.
