The Hinrich Foundation and the British Chamber of Commerce, with the support of the British High Commission in Singapore, co-organized a roundtable discussion to explore digital trade between the UK and Singapore. This forum provided an opportunity for government and business stakeholders to engage on the UK-Singapore Digital Economy Agreement (DEA).
Held on 23 January, the event brought together key stakeholders from various sectors to explore and discuss the benefits of the UK-Singapore DEA and the potential for future partnerships. Participants included representatives from the British High Commission, ACCA, SCAN Global Logistics, Revolut, SAESL, and others. Deborah Elms, Head of Trade Policy at the Hinrich Foundation, facilitated discussions on the challenges and opportunities within digital trade, highlighting the need for practical recommendations to enhance digital trade between the two nations.
Participants emphasized the crucial role of cybersecurity and addressed the complexities of creating uniform regulations, particularly in the context of post-quantum cryptography. They also underscored the need to digitalize supply chains for improved trade efficiency and called for greater regulatory alignment and mutual recognition between the UK and Singapore.
The roundtable facilitated the exchange of perspectives on the UK-Singapore DEA and highlighted its immense potential to foster innovation, enhance cybersecurity, and streamline trade processes.
