The Hinrich Foundation and the Singapore Business Circle jointly hosted Dr. Beh Swan Gin, Permanent Secretary at Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, for a closed-door roundtable on 17 March, on the array of issues, challenges, priorities, and opportunities in a swiftly changing global economy.

Titled “A Strategic Dialogue on Trade and Tariffs,” the session, conducted on the Chatham House Rule, discussed global geopolitical disruptions, the challenges of AI, climate change, the preservation of “economic space,” productivity-led growth, and Singapore’s responses to the emergence of a new trading order.

Demographic and geopolitical issues including an aging workforce, the nature of potential job losses, new opportunities for a maturing economy, and the task of navigating between major economies were also on the table.

Guests included senior executives and leaders from ExxonMobil Asia Pacific, Glencore Singapore, LinkedIn Corp., ComfortDelgro Group, Grab Holdings, Agrocorp International, Changi Airport Group, Tai Tak Group, Wee Hur Group, Nuri Holding, and Singapore Business Federation.
